Introduction

Road safety is an emerging trend nowadays. Road traffic accidents (RTA) is a global disaster hampering the life of millions. Every day 414 valuables' lives are lost due to road accidents. Road safety reflects the character of a person. After many road safety campaigns and awareness programs, there is still an increase in deaths in India, ranking first in the number of road accident deaths across the 199 countries and accounting for almost 11% of the accident-related deaths in the World. Not only in India, Road traffic continues to be a major developmental issue, a public health concern, and is a leading cause of death and injury across the World killing more than 1.35 million globally as reported in the Global Status report on Road Safety 2018 with 90% of these casualties taking place in the developing countries.

Indian Road Safety Campaign and Ministry of Road Transport and Highways have launched this Ideathon during National Road Safety Month to invite ideas to address one of the most pressing issues of current times- the current road safety scenario of our nation. The competition lays emphasis on suggesting ideas for Road safety related issues which often becomes the reason behind deaths in Road Accidents and how to incorporate those ideas to curb those issues.

Themes for the Ideathon

Driver Behaviour
Driver Behaviour

Improving driver skills and building applications and/or simplistic integrable devices that can make driving much more easier and efficient. Here, we aim to target both domestic as well as commercial drivers. Such improved techniques and assistive technologies can prove to be very beneficial in bringing down the number of accidents.

Crash Investigation
Crash Investigation

Analysing why an accident happened is a very important aspect of our endeavour to build safer roads. If we can come up with a web-tool/app that can make crash investigation easy and help us perform the same in a systematic way, it should be a game changer.

Emergency Connect
Emergency Connect

Working on a web/tool that can improve the post accident emergency space in India. From working on making it easy for the victims to claim financial support to the process of getting an ambulance- there is a lot of gap in the space that can be worked upon by using technology to improve the same.

Vehicle Fitness
Vehicle Fitness

People most often do not know whether their vehicle is in the best state to undertake the journey. We can come up with a solution that can help citizens evaluate the state of their vehicle before every drive and help them with any issues before the start to have safe journeys.

Smart Analyzer
Smart Analyzer

A free tool can be developed for the police of the nation that can help them monitor speed of the vehicles, implement odd-even policies, track fitness of the vehicles and age of the same, person wearing helmet or not, has the seat belt on or not based on continuous video feeds
