National Webinar on the Three New Criminal Laws

Brief Introduction

The Parliament has passed three new criminal laws: the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), which will replace the Indian Penal Code 1860, the Criminal Procedure Code 1973, and the Indian Evidence Act 1872, respectively. These Acts have received the President of India’s assent and have been notified in the Official Gazette. These new laws introduce transformative amendments aimed at overhauling the criminal justice system, with a focus on timely justice delivery, victim-centric approaches, gender neutrality, and stringent punishments for crimes against women and children.
